Corona Regulations Update:
The regulations for home isolation in the event of a Corona infection were changed effective 16.11.2022. A new Corona occupational health and safety regulation came into force on 01.10.2022. Based on this, the university management has adopted an updated hygiene concept.The most important changes are
- The domestic isolation obligation for persons tested positive for the corona virus is no longer applicable; a medical face mask (surgical mask) or an FFP2 mask must be worn outside the home. Voluntary self-isolation and working in a home office is strongly recommended.
- The operational hygiene concept describes general protective measures that apply throughout LMU. The institutions are obliged to check by means of an individual risk assessment whether additional protective measures are necessary in their area. The protective measures taken must be documented.
- It is recommended that medical masks or FFP2 masks continue to be worn if close contact (without a minimum distance of 1.5 m) with other persons takes place (e.g., personal conversation, prolonged presence of several persons indoors). If the decentralized risk assessment shows that the minimum distance of 1.5 m is not only briefly exceeded (close contact) due to the activity (e.g. joint work on equipment, assembly work) and technical (e.g. ventilation to protect against infection) and organizational (e.g. reduction of room occupancy) protective measures are not sufficient to protect employees, medical face masks (surgical masks) or FFP2 masks must be worn.
- Employees who perform work involving close contact with other persons and who cannot wear a mask while doing so for work-related reasons must be offered a free weekly antigen self-test. The same applies to students in practical courses (e.g. laboratory practicals).
- Necessary masks and antigen self-tests are to be financed by the respective institutions. Procurement is done centrally by the Office of Occupational Safety and Sustainability.
- Until April 07, 2023, people can continue to work from home on a voluntary basis, provided this is technically feasible and the arrangement does not impair proper service.

In general, prudent and cautious behavior continues to be important in the current situation.
Therefore, please inform yourself regularly about the current status on the websites of the Robert Koch-Institute, the Bavarian State Ministry of Health, the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety as well as the Federal Foreign Office.
If a corona infection is suspected, all university members are requested to contact a physician or the on-call service of „Kassenärztlicher Bereitschaftsdienst“ (116 117) immediately by telephone, and discuss on how to proceed further. The same applies if you have or have had contact with a person infected with the corona virus.
Access to LMU buildings
All general admission restrictions have been lifted.
Persons suffering from COVID-19 are allowed to enter the university. A medical face mask (surgical mask) or FFP2 mask must be worn at all times while in LMU buildings.
Positively tested individuals are strongly advised to voluntarily go into self-isolation (minimum of 5 days with at least 48 hrs symptom-free, maximum of 10 days) and work from a home office whenever possible. Avoid unnecessary contact with others. Contact with particularly vulnerable persons (risk groups; e.g. pregnant women) should be avoided at all costs.
Measures to reduce contact
All employees are required to maintain a minimum distance of 1.5 m from other persons wherever possible. In addition, organizational measures are required within the framework of a risk assessment of the individual work situation in order to reduce operationally related contacts with people. In addition to maintaining the minimum distance, this includes reducing room occupancy and the use of video conferencing systems.
Persons suffering from COVID-19 must avoid unnecessary contact with other persons. Contact with particularly vulnerable persons (risk groups; e.g. pregnant women) should be avoided at all costs.
Face masks
Masks are not mandatory in all LMU buildings. It is recommended to continue wearing medical masks or FFP2 masks if close contact (without a minimum distance of 1.5 m) with other persons takes place (e.g. personal conversation, simultaneous presence of several persons indoors).
Individuals suffering from COVID-19 must wear a medical face mask (surgical mask) or FFP2 mask at all times while in LMU buildings.
If the decentralized risk assessment (sheet 10.0) shows that the minimum distance of 1.5 m is not only briefly exceeded (close contact) due to the activity (e.g. working together on equipment, assembly work) and technical (e.g. ventilation to protect against infection) and organizational (e.g. reduction of room occupancy) protective measures are not sufficient to protect employees, medical face masks (surgical masks) or FFP2 masks must be worn.
Necessary masks for employees and students in practical events are to be financed by the respective institutions; procurement is carried out centrally by the Office of Occupational Safety and Sustainability (send completed order form to aun-service@verwaltung.uni-muenchen.de).
Masks are not to be worn during open handling of hazardous, bioactive and radioactive substances. Conversely, respiratory protection must still be used for all special activities that require it.
FFP2 masks with no exhalation valve may be worn for a maximum of 75 minutes at a time (or up to 110 minutes for light, predominantly sedentary work). Thereafter, a break of 30 minutes is to be taken each time the mask is worn. If the activities engaged in make wearing masks for longer periods unavoidable, breaks must be taken immediately if health problems occur (such as shortness of breath or a feeling of being unwell). Employees who have to wear an FFP2 mask for longer than 75 or 110 minutes per working day during the corona pandemic due to the nature of their work must be offered an occupational medical check-up by their supervisors at the Betriebsärztlicher Dienst (occupational medical service).
The occupational medical check-up includes a medical consultation in conjunction with a review of the individual’s medical history. If the occupational medical service considers an additional physical and/or clinical examination to be necessary, this can be offered to the employee concerned, who can choose whether to have the examination.
Ventilation concept
The "Regulations for ventilation to protect against infection during the Corona pandemic" apply. Ventilation in accordance with infection control regulations is of great importance for infection control. Therefore, the regulations should be strictly observed, both at workplaces and in meeting rooms and during teaching events.
Availability of corona self-testing
Employees who perform work involving close contact with other persons and who cannot wear a mask while doing so for work-related reasons (e.g. open handling of hazardous, bioactive and radioactive substances) must be offered a free antigen self-test every week. The same applies to students in practical courses (e.g. laboratory practicals). The documentation is done in the individual risk assessment (sheet 10.0). Necessary self-tests are to be financed by the institutions; procurement is carried out by the Office of Occupational Safety and Sustainability (send completed order form to aun-service@verwaltung.uni-muenchen.de).
